Japan logged a record number of 29 trade secret theft cases in 2022, up six from the previous year, police data showed Thursday.
The figure was nearly sixfold from 2013 when the comparable statistics began in Japan, according to the National Police Agency (NPA).
Japanese police made arrests or took other law enforcement actions against 45 people on suspicion of violating the unfair competition prevention law, down four from 2021 but up almost fourfold from 2013, the data showed.
The numbers of cases and suspects involving trade secret theft are both on the rise as companies have become more aware of the issue and begun to manage internal information more strictly, the NPA said.
