The Meteorological Agency of Tajikistan monitors all glaciers

In April, May and June of this year, the Meteorological Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan plans to monitor all the country’s glaciers. The statement was made by the head of the Committee for Environmental Protection Bakhodur Sheralizoda. This was reported to SNG.Today in the  press service of the relevant department.

The process will be implemented within the framework of the program “Research and protection of glaciers in the period up to 2030”. The review will take into account various factors. Among them are the level of snow cover and precipitation. The risks of natural disasters will be monitored.

In addition, special attention will be paid to the study of lakes. Sheralizoda noted that this must be done, since the corresponding reservoirs of Tajikistan can break through when the glaciers melt.

Earlier, the committee said that it is too late to stop the process of melting glaciers . It was emphasized that the authorities will take additional measures in order to mitigate the consequences of the natural disaster.

The United Nations, at the initiative of Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon, has declared 2025 the International Year for the Preservation of Glaciers.
