Korea Easy Payment Foundation has partnered with GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank, to deliver cross-border QR payments for tourists visiting South Korea. GLN provides a variety of services including QR payments and withdrawals at ATMs and oversees remittances, according to a press release.
The companies will initially promote the service in Laos, Thailand and Taiwan, with plans to expand coverage to other southeastern Asian countries and other regions.
“We are willing to encourage foreign tourists to spend in Korea by adopting cross-border QR payment,” Choi Tong-ju, CEO of KEPF, said in the release. “In particular, Korea is a top destination for the region of Taiwan and Thailand tourists, and vice versa, especially like to experience Korean food and lifestyle culture, which is expected to greatly help small medium size merchants and revitalize local economy.”
