Japan stunned Finland 98-88 FIBA World Cup 2023 on Sunday (27 August) for their first win on the global stage since 2006.
Japan’s Josh Hawkinson scored 28 points and grabbed 19 rebounds while Kawamura Yuki also had 25 points to go along with nine assists.
Lauri Markkanen had 25 points and 12 rebounds for Finland.
Japan took the lead midway through the fourth quarter on a three-point play by Kawamura, who made it 82-78 with 3:51 left with a dagger 3.
