China Sets up Final Clash With South Korea at Winter World University Games Women’s Curling

China nipped the United States 6-5 in Lake Placid on Thursday to meet South Korea in the women’s curling final of the 31st Winter World University Games.

Falling behind 4-2 at halftime, the Chinese girls overtook the lead 5-4 after cashing in two points in the sixth end. The Americans, 5-3 winners over China in Wednesday’s round-robin match, tied it at 5-5 in the seventh before Chinese skipper Han Yu secured the final berth for China with her last shot in the eighth and final end.

“The United States have a very strong team, and they are playing at home, we just tried our best to attack, and finally it worked out for us,” said China coach Yu Zuojun.

South Korea eased past Britain 10-4 for the other berth in the final, which was slated for Saturday.

“South Korea is a very strong team, and they also beat us in the round-robin preliminaries. We have nothing to lose. We’ll just do as well as we can in the final,” Yu added.
